About
Spending his first 18 years in Dubai, where he consumed everything from American syndicated television, MTV, Star Wars, and Bollywood, Tejas never knew that his myriad influences and obsessions would lead him to become one of India’s foremost English singer-songwriters and pop artists. Bringing together a variety of genres, including Rock, R&B, and Electronica, his music has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of independent English songwriting from the sub-continent. Whether playing festivals with a larger-than-life 12-piece band or intimate theaters, Tejas’ shows are always a cinematic experience fuelled by his unique energy, raw emotion, and brazen humour.
Beginning in 2014 with a debut EP ‘Small Victories,’ Tejas has gone on to be prolific in his field, aided by his co-producers and bandmates Adil Kurwa and Jehangir Jehangir. Both of his previously released albums, ‘Outlast’ (2021) and ‘Make It Happen’ (2017), have been critically acclaimed, both featuring on several year-end lists, with the latter being included in the top 10 Best Indian albums of 2021 by Rolling Stone Magazine. His latest album ‘Museum’ is a radical sonic shift and explores new territory by fusing English Pop with Indian Classical instrumentation. It is set to be released in 2024.
Tejas has travelled across the country to play sold-out shows at most major venues and music festivals, including Lollapalooza India, Bacardi NH7 Weekender, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, and VH1 Supersonic. In 2021, he released a cover of ‘Across the Universe’ and toured in Spain to promote the film ‘The Beatles and India,’ which chronicles the fab four’s time in Hrishikesh. He has supported Damien Rice, Lucy Rose, and Westlife on their Indian tours and was also the recipient of the Best Singer-Songwriter of The Year (Jury’s Choice) Award from The Indian Music Diaries Awards 2021, and the winner of Pop Artist of the Year from The Indies Awards. He recently also burst onto the Bollywood scene as the voice of ‘Archie’ in the 2023 Netflix Musical ‘The Archies’ by Zoya Akhtar. Working with industry legends Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Javed Akhtar, and Ankur Tewari, Tejas’ voice formed the heart of the film and features on six of songs on the hit album from Sony Music.
